The Costa del Sol is home to a string of marinas, some cosy and small, others sprawling between residential and commercial real estate. Each offers temporary and permanent mooring, boat sales, dry-dock and maintenance facilities, shops, restaurants and bars offering a huge variety of choice for the visitor. The world famous Puerto Banús is perhaps the jewel on the Coast’s crown but others such as the award-winning Benalmadena Port, the picturesque La Heradura and the mature yet ever-changing port of Sotogrande continue to attract boats from around the globe.

GOLF

After the success of the Ryder Cup, hosted at Valderrama in 1997, the Costa del Sol has enjoyed an enviable reputation as Europe’s premier golfing destination. In fact, with more than 70 courses, the aptly nick-named “Costa del Golf” can offer golfers a huge choice of courses to challenge any level. The Costa del Sol’s winter weather makes it ideal as a second home location for northern European golfers.

CULTURE

The Costa del Sol has a rich historical and cultural past and reminders of this are everywhere. From the narrow whitewashed streets of old Marbella, built by the Moors, to ruins of Roman villas, the observance of Saint’s Days, holy festivals such as the Easter processions and annual fairs. Museums such as Malaga’s Picasso Museum, stunning historical architecture such as the mosque in Cordoba and religious buildings such as the stunning cathedral in Seville will keep even the most avid culture vulture’s appetite satiated.

HORSES
For equine lovers, the Costa del Sol is a wonderful place. For beginners, riding stables offer classes for all levels and many private stables offer livery services for your own horses. If you ride, follow ancient mule tracks through the stunning Andalusian countryside or gallop through the early morning surf. At Sotogrande, a polo club has been in residence for decades which has an exciting calendar of events. For excitement of a more down to earth level, the Mijas Hipodromo runs horse racing meets throughout the summer months.

MOTOR RACING

There are very few places on earth where you can feel what it means to be a Formula 1 driver and the Costa del Sol is one of them. Situated in the mountains up behind Marbella, close to the historic city of Ronda, the Ascari Racing Resort is complete with its own 5 km racetrack and a raft of racing cars from Saloon car to Formula racer. Alternatively, you can test yourself and your own car top speed on the track or invite your employees to your own business trip, as no one else has tried – perhaps not for delicate hearts – but guaranteed fun.
